On Tuesday, MS NOW host Jen Psaki highlighted the challenges Republicans face in defending President Donald Trump due to his unpredictable decision-making.
Psaki, who has experience as White House press secretary under Joe Biden, started a segment with a clip of Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.), who suggested that many Republicans in Congress privately believe Trump has “lost it” and is leading them towards significant losses this fall.
“Honestly, that observation could apply to many situations because there are numerous issues right now where the president’s actions are proving disastrous for his party,” Psaki commented.
Psaki referred to recent events involving Trump’s inconsistent Iran policies, including a reversal on imposing a “reimbursement” fee on cargo ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
“If you’re a Republican seeking reelection, how do you justify—not just such erratic decision-making in the midst of a war that lacks a clear resolution and is already unpopular with the public—how do you justify that?” Psaki questioned.
She further emphasized that Trump has not relinquished his demands for “mass deportations,” despite reports that Immigration and Customs Enforcement has advised its agents to limit vehicle stops following two fatal shootings of motorists.
In the hours following the segment’s broadcast, Trump posted on his Truth Social platform, asserting that ICE “CANNOT give up” traffic stops.
“This pattern repeats itself: Trump enforces an unpopular policy in such a chaotic manner that the subsequent fallout only worsens its reception,” Psaki remarked. “And then his party struggles to defend it once it backfires.”
Psaki later argued that one consistent trait about Trump is his inability to “let anything go.”
“He is indifferent to the fact that his policies are unpopular with the public and detrimental to his party’s reelection prospects in various regions,” she commented.
“He disregards the repeated failures of his efforts; instead, he continues to devise new strategies to further his agenda.”
“It is safe to say that Trump is not having a very good week,” the MS NOW host said before making a very sobering point.
