This week’s AEW Dynamite kicked off with a thrilling and tumultuous scene as Adam Copeland and Christian Cage successfully defended their championship titles.
In the opening match of the July 15 episode, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage put their AEW World Tag Team Championships on the line against Death Riders members Daniel Garcia and Wheeler Yuta. Despite being taunted by the crowd, Yuta shook it off and began the bout against the Rated-R superstar. The initial exchanges were brief, and soon both competitors tagged in their partners, bringing Christian and Garcia into the ring as the legal participants.
The pace of the match quickly escalated. The Patriarch overpowered the former TNT Champion and tagged Copeland back in. Taking advantage of the referee’s distraction, the Death Riders double-teamed Copeland, allowing Garcia to dominate for a period. However, the former 11-time World Champion eventually tagged Christian back in, regaining control of the match.
The bout remained engaging and intense. As it neared its conclusion, Wheeler Yuta attempted to remove the top turnbuckle. With the referee’s attention elsewhere, The Patriarch seized the moment to deliver a low blow to Garcia, taking him out of contention. Yuta, turning around to find himself alone, was swiftly taken down by Adam Copeland and Christian Cage with a tossing spear, securing their victory and retaining the AEW titles.
The Young Bucks were seen observing the triumphant pair. However, the celebrations were short-lived as the champions were ambushed by the Dogs (Clark Connors and David Finlay) and Claudio Castagnoli. As the champions struggled, the Bang Bang Gang came to their rescue, leading to utter chaos until the Dogs and Castagnoli withdrew. The scene concluded with lingering tensions between Jay White and Christian Cage.
