Cavaseea Stewart (Chicago Police Department, Lime)

Man Arrested for Armed Robberies on Lime Scooter

A man accused of carrying out a series of armed robberies on Chicago’s Far South Side while riding a Lime scooter has been apprehended after investigators utilized the scooter’s GPS and crash data to track his movements, according to prosecutors.

Cavaseea Stewart, 25, now faces charges of three counts of armed robbery and one count of aggravated robbery in connection with incidents that occurred between October 4 and 6. Prosecutors suspect him of being involved in up to eight similar crimes.

The first robbery took place on October 4 in the 10400 block of South Michigan Avenue. Stewart, wearing a ski mask, allegedly approached a woman at a bus stop, demanded her phone while implying he had a gun, and then fled with her belongings without displaying a firearm.

Later that same day, another victim was robbed after requesting a ride on Stewart’s scooter. Upon nearing their destination, Stewart allegedly brandished a revolver, stole the victim’s phone, wallet, and loose change, and instructed the victim to flee.

The following morning, a third victim was targeted while walking on South Prairie Avenue. Stewart reportedly pointed a gun at her, demanded her possessions, including two iPhones and AirPods, and threatened her life if she did not comply.

The fourth robbery occurred on October 6, where Stewart approached a man on a scooter, pointed a gun at him, and made off with his phone.

Authorities honed in on Stewart after discovering a Lime scooter matching the one used in the robberies near his residence. Additionally, data from Stewart’s phone and Lime account linked him to the crimes, with crash alerts recorded by Lime’s system aligning with the locations and times of the incidents.

Stewart, already on parole for felony theft, has been detained by Judge Deidre Dyer. Records indicate he has been arrested 19 times since reaching adulthood.
