Patrick Mahomes Sr. found himself in a sticky situation earlier this year when he tried to use his son’s name to get out of a DWI stop. Police video obtained by TMZ Sports shows Mahomes Sr. repeatedly telling officers that any arrest would likely cost his son, Patrick Mahomes Jr., and the Kansas City Chiefs a shot at Super Bowl LVIII.

The incident occurred on February 3 when Mahomes Sr. was pulled over in Tyler, Texas for driving a vehicle with outdated registration. Initially cooperative and cordial, Mahomes Sr. handed over all necessary information to the officers, even admitting to having consumed “a couple beers” before driving. However, his demeanor took a turn once he was asked to perform field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested.

In the body camera footage, Mahomes Sr. can be heard expressing disbelief at the situation, stating, “I’m supposed to be going to the Super Bowl to watch my son play football, and this is what we’re doing?” He continued to plead with officers to let him go, citing his son’s upcoming championship game against the 49ers.

Despite his efforts, Mahomes Sr. was taken to a nearby jail where blood tests revealed a BAC of .23. He was later released and able to attend the Super Bowl, where his son led the Chiefs to victory. However, Mahomes Sr. was charged with a felony count of DWI third or more and ultimately received a five-year probation sentence after reaching a deal with prosecutors.

Reflecting on the incident, Mahomes Sr. admitted that it was an eye-opener for him and shared that he has not had a drink since. The experience served as a lesson for him and a reminder of the consequences of his actions.
