NewsNation Prepares for Election Night with Data-Driven Approach

As Election Night approaches, NewsNation is gearing up for a night of coverage that relies heavily on data to draw in viewers. The Nexstar-backed news outlet, known for challenging more established cable competitors like Fox News, MSNBC, and CNN, is once again partnering with Decision Desk HQ, the election-data experts who helped NewsNation make the first call of the 2024 presidential election.

According to NewsNation personality Leland Vittert, “On Election Night, the data is more important than the anchors,” highlighting the network’s emphasis on using data to inform their coverage.

While other mainstream TV-news outlets will have familiar faces like Bret Baier, Martha MacCallum, and Rachel Maddow leading their coverage, NewsNation is taking a different approach. They will be the only major news outlet not using the Associated Press’ calls on Election Night, instead relying on Decision Desk HQ’s expertise in election forecasting based on demographic trends and turnout estimates.

Bill Sammon, senior vice president of Washington D.C. content for NewsNation and The Hill, believes Decision Desk HQ has a track record of accuracy when it comes to calling elections, citing their successful predictions in the last two presidential elections.

While Election Night 2025 may not be the most consequential, it still offers plenty of intrigue for news enthusiasts and political junkies. From historic mayoral races to gubernatorial showdowns and controversial ballot measures, there is no shortage of drama to keep viewers engaged.

In a unique twist, NewsNation correspondent Brian Entin has embarked on a road trip in a special RV to interview individuals whose voices are often overlooked in national news coverage. From truckers at highway stops to farmers and voters in key states, Entin and his team are seeking out diverse perspectives on issues that matter to Americans.

As Vittert explains, NewsNation is prepared for any scenario that may unfold on Election Night. “We go through every possible scenario… we have thought through a lot of things,” he says. The network’s goal is to demonstrate their readiness for whatever the night may bring, even if it means making unexpected calls in hotly contested races.
