Lagos Fashion Week has been a catalyst for cultural pride and a platform for showcasing the talent and creativity of designers in Nigeria and beyond. According to photographer Stephen Tayo, who has been documenting the event for over eight years, there has been a shift in perceptions of the fashion industry over the last 15 years. People now have a better understanding of the inner workings of the industry, from buyers to art directors to PR professionals.

The influence of local and international influencers has grown significantly, with influencers and content creators from the US and Europe attending the event. Nneka Michel, a returning influencer, describes Lagos Fashion Week as a therapeutic experience that allows her to tap into her culture and showcase the talents of her country. The event has also attracted the attention of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, which invited American musician Ciara to attend shows and experience the city during fashion week.

The growth of Lagos Fashion Week can be seen in the increasing number of designers eager to be part of the schedule. Frank Aghuno, founder of the contemporary fashion brand Fruche, was thrilled to learn that Ciara would walk in his show, describing it as a surreal moment. As the event continues to expand, founder Omoyemi Akerele believes that fashion can be a catalyst for cultural pride and systemic change, and she is committed to showcasing the best of African fashion for as long as possible.

In conclusion, Lagos Fashion Week is not just a celebration of fashion but a platform for cultural exchange and pride. The event continues to attract a diverse range of designers, influencers, and industry professionals, showcasing the talent and creativity of African fashion on a global stage.
