Sen. Ted Cruz Critiques GOP Silence on Tucker Carlson’s Controversial Comments

Senator Ted Cruz has taken fellow Republicans to task for their reluctance to confront Tucker Carlson, asserting that the conservative commentator has disseminated “a poison that is profoundly dangerous.”

During a speech at the Federalist Society’s National Lawyers Convention in Washington, Cruz (R-Texas) expressed his frustration, noting, “My colleagues, almost to a person, think what is happening is horrible, but a great many of them are frightened because he has one hell of a big megaphone.”

The controversy erupted after Carlson hosted Nick Fuentes, a self-proclaimed white supremacist, on his podcast last week, a move that has since dominated discussions within the conservative movement. The fallout from this incident not only overshadowed the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual summit but also prompted internal strife at The Heritage Foundation, resulting in the resignations of several staff members.

Cruz, who identifies as a “Christian Zionist,” was quick to denounce the podcast episode featuring Carlson and Fuentes. At the RJC event, he claimed to have witnessed an alarming rise in antisemitism within conservative circles over the past six months, stating, “I have seen more antisemitism on the right than I have in my entire life.”

Addressing the gravity of the situation, Cruz remarked, “If you sit there with someone who says Adolf Hitler was very, very cool, and that their mission is to combat and defeat global Jewry, and you say nothing, then you are [a] coward and you are complicit in that evil.” Yet, it was during his recent address that Cruz escalated his critique of fellow conservatives for their lack of vocal opposition to Carlson.

“Fuentes and Tucker and the rest of that ilk have a right to say what they are saying,” Cruz asserted. “Every one of us has an obligation to stand up and say it is wrong.” He further challenged his peers, saying, “It’s easy right now to denounce Fuentes. Are you willing to say Tucker’s name?”

As of now, Carlson has not publicly responded to Cruz’s remarks.

In a previous podcast debate with Carlson back in June, Cruz clarified that his issue was not simply with Carlson providing a platform for Fuentes but rather his failure to challenge the antisemitic and bigoted assertions made during the episode. Notably, Fuentes had claimed that the “big challenge” to unifying America was “organized Jewry.”

Cruz pointedly remarked, “The last I checked, Tucker actually knows how to cross-examine.”
