A shooting incident occurred in Uptown, Chicago, where a 45-year-old man was critically injured in a McDonald’s parking lot on Friday afternoon. This marks the third shooting incident in Uptown within the same week, raising concerns about public safety in the area.

The victim was inside a car at the restaurant lot located at 1004 West Wilson when two men approached the vehicle. One of the men started shooting, resulting in the victim sustaining a gunshot wound to his head. Emergency Medical Services rushed the man to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition for treatment.

According to officers at the scene, the suspects were described as Black men in their late teens. One suspect was tall, around 6 feet, wearing a black baseball hat, a dark hoodie over an orange or red t-shirt, and black pants. The other suspect was shorter, about 5’7″ tall, wearing a white hoodie, black pants, and white shoes. Both suspects were seen fleeing south on Sheridan after the shooting incident.

Earlier in the week, another shooting incident took place in the 4900 block of North Sheridan, where two men were shot by three gunmen near Buttercup Park. One victim, a 30-year-old man sitting inside an apartment building lobby, and a 39-year-old man walking in the area were targeted by the gunmen. The suspects in this incident were not described by the police, and it remains unclear if the victims were the intended targets.

This recent shooting brings the total number of people shot in Uptown to 14 this year, with one fatality. Comparing this data to previous years’ statistics on October 18 reveals a concerning trend:

– 2022: 14 shot, 5 fatally
– 2021: 16 shot, 1 fatally
– 2020: 14 shot, 4 fatally

The rise in shooting incidents highlights the urgent need for increased safety measures and community support to combat gun violence in Uptown and surrounding areas.
