The country’s first openly trans lawmaker, Stacie-Marie Laughton, has been embroiled in a disturbing case involving the abuse of children at a Massachusetts daycare. Laughton, formerly known as Barry Laughton, pleaded guilty to federal child pornography charges after exchanging explicit images with his partner, Lindsay Groves. The pair engaged in sickening text message exchanges discussing their perverted fantasies, with Laughton directing Groves on how to abuse children as young as 3.
Groves, who worked at the Creative Minds daycare in Tyngsborough, Mass., sent at least four explicit pictures of children between the ages of 3 and 5 to Laughton. In the messages, Laughton expressed his fears of getting caught for their heinous acts, acknowledging that it was against the law and could lead to arrests. This is not the first time Laughton has faced legal troubles, having been forced to resign twice as a state representative in New Hampshire over separate issues, including credit card fraud and stalking.
In one disturbing text message, Laughton expressed a desire to become a church minister and questioned whether he would still go to heaven despite his crimes. Groves reassured him, claiming that God would be okay with their actions and that Laughton would make a great minister. The pair’s despicable crimes were uncovered when Laughton sent the images to a third party, who promptly reported them to the authorities.
Laughton and Groves are set to be sentenced in February, facing up to 30 years in prison for their abhorrent actions. The case has shocked the community and highlighted the importance of protecting children from exploitation and abuse. It serves as a stark reminder of the darkness that can lurk behind seemingly normal facades, and the urgent need for vigilance in safeguarding the most vulnerable members of society.
