In a recent survey conducted by a Republican pollster, Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom was found to lead Vice President JD Vance among young male voters in a hypothetical 2028 presidential election. The poll, conducted in late October by TIPP Insight in collaboration with the League of American Workers, asked 2,100 registered voters aged 18-25, including a sample of 1,300 men, who they would prefer between Vance and Newsom.
According to the findings, 38% of the young men surveyed favored the California governor, while 33% preferred Vance. 15% indicated they would choose someone else, and another 15% were unsure. Notably, among men who voted for Trump in 2024, 67% said they would vote for Vance, while 14% favored Newsom.
Speculation is rife that both Newsom and Vance could run for president in 2028. Newsom has admitted to considering a presidential run, while former President Donald Trump has touted a ticket with Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as “unstoppable.”
Recent polling indicates a decline in the president’s approval ratings during his second term. Newsom, known for his vocal criticism of Trump and his supporters, has faced backlash within his own party for engaging with right-wing figures like Charlie Kirk and Steve Bannon on his podcast.
Despite the controversy, Newsom continues to use social media as a platform to reach out to new supporters. The survey results suggest a shifting landscape among young male voters, with potential implications for the 2028 presidential race.
