Ashanti Randolph, a 29-year-old Chicago man, was recently charged with first-degree murder in connection to a shooting that took place in the West Loop last month. The incident, which occurred on September 1, resulted in the death of 34-year-old Travis Bailey who was struck in the head by a bullet fired from a passing car. Bailey, along with two others who were with him at the time, were unarmed.

During a hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse, Judge Caroline Glennon-Goodman ordered Randolph’s detention after reviewing evidence that placed him at the scene of the crime. According to the judge’s order, Randolph was captured on video exiting the shooter’s vehicle wearing a Hellstar t-shirt. Additionally, license plate readers identified Randolph’s black Audi in the area of the shooting at the time of the murder, and witnesses were able to positively identify him from video stills.

In addition to the first-degree murder charge, Randolph is also facing a charge of aggravated assault by discharging a firearm. The gravity of these charges is reflected in the seriousness of the crime and the impact it has had on the community.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of accurate and detailed reporting in cases of public safety. CWBChicago, a local news outlet created in 2013 by residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown, is committed to providing original reporting on public safety issues in Chicago. Their coverage area has expanded to include neighborhoods like Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side areas. Despite this expansion, their mission remains the same: to deliver accurate and in-depth reporting on public safety matters that mainstream media outlets may overlook.
