A recent incident on the Red Line in Chicago has led to the arrest of 22-year-old Vaughn Jackson, a resident of Roseland. Jackson has been charged with participating in a series of violent robberies targeting passengers on the Red Line earlier this year.
According to Chicago police, Jackson was part of a group that attacked and robbed a 45-year-old man aboard a train near Garfield around 5:15 p.m. on January 5. Shortly after, Jackson allegedly joined others in assaulting and robbing a 19-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man on a train near 35th Street. Another 19-year-old woman was also attacked during this incident, although she was not robbed.
Surveillance images of the suspects were released by detectives on January 9, seeking the public’s help in identifying them. In March, a 17-year-old girl was charged in connection with the Garfield robbery. Jackson now faces three counts of robbery, three counts of aggravated battery of a transit passenger, and one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.
Jackson is scheduled to appear at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse for a detention hearing on Thursday afternoon. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of public safety and vigilance while using public transportation.
