Man with History of CTA Crimes Shot and Killed at Morse Red Line Station

CHICAGO — Tragedy struck at the Morse Red Line station on Sunday evening when a man with a known criminal history on CTA train lines was shot and killed, as reported by a law enforcement source.

The victim, a 27-year-old male, was involved in a prior robbery case on a Red Line train and was awaiting trial for another robbery at the time of the fatal shooting. Although his identity has not been officially released, he had a history of criminal activity on public transportation.

Witnesses recounted that the shooting took place around 8:20 p.m. outside the Morse station, with gunfire coming from a dark-colored Jeep. The victim sustained fatal injuries after being shot in the lower back and collapsed in the station lobby. Despite damage to storefront windows in the area, no other injuries were reported.

Emergency Medical Services rushed the man to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Court records revealed that the victim had been arrested earlier in the year for a robbery at the Granville Red Line station. He had previously been on parole for a robbery at the same Morse Red Line station in 2020.

Following the recent Granville robbery charges, a judge initially held the man in custody due to public safety concerns. However, a different judge, Carol Howard, later lifted all restrictions, allowing him to roam freely while awaiting trial.

Further details about the victim will be disclosed once his identity is made public. The incident marks a grim addition to the ongoing violence in Rogers Park, where 22 people have been shot this year, showing a slight decrease from previous years.
