Dsquared2’s Pre-Fall Collection: A Playful Twist on Autumnal Fashion
Games took center stage in Dsquared2’s latest pre-fall collection, with a unique blend of Winter Olympics inspiration and playful garment design. Set against an autumnal palette, Dean and Dan Caten showcased their talent for mixing tailored pieces with unexpected elements that challenge the eye.
Embracing the upcoming Winter Olympics in Cortina, Italy, the collection featured nods to the sporting event through innovative designs and unexpected fabric choices. From a cotton trucker jacket cleverly flocked and brushed to mimic suede, to suits with a worn-out, wrinkled effect, every piece had a touch of whimsy and surprise.
For women, the collection took experimentation to a new level with hybrid pieces that combined different styles and silhouettes. One standout piece was a cinched-waist parka that seamlessly fused elements of a trucker, biker jacket, and bomber into a single statement piece. Bomber jackets were reimagined in form-fitting styles or deconstructed to create pencil skirts and hybrid jackets with sweatshirt inserts.
The hybridizing technique extended to other pieces in the collection, such as a long coat with a built-in leather belt and pants pockets. For a touch of glamour, black cocktail dresses and oversized formal jackets with cut-outs added a sophisticated edge. Shimmering flowy frocks reminiscent of 2000s fashion completed the lineup, showcasing the Catens’ ability to blend nostalgia with modern design.
