Colorado Football Team’s Struggles in the Transfer Portal

Deion Sanders, the former baseball player turned head coach of the Colorado football team, understands the concept of swinging and missing. Despite his success as a .263 hitter in the Major Leagues, Sanders is facing challenges in college football’s transfer portal.

As the Buffaloes limp towards the end of the season, Sanders reflects on the team’s lack of success in the transfer portal as a major factor contributing to their current 3-8 record. Despite strategic planning, the team did not hit the mark with their portal transfers in 2025.

Sanders takes responsibility for the team’s performance, acknowledging that injuries, coaching decisions, and underperforming transfers have all played a role in their struggles. The Buffs, who were led by successful transfers in 2024, have not been able to replicate that success this year.

Key transfers like quarterback Kaidon Salter have had moments of brilliance but have not fully integrated into the team’s system. Injuries have plagued several other transfers, limiting their impact on the field.

Despite some successes with transfers like receivers Joseph Williams and Sincere Brown, Sanders recognizes the need for a more effective roster building process in the future. He attributes some of the team’s challenges to his absence during the summer due to health issues.

Looking ahead to the offseason, Sanders is eager to rebuild the team and improve their performance in the transfer portal. He emphasizes the importance of finding the right players who are committed to the team’s goals and values.

While acknowledging the financial challenges of competing in the transfer market, Sanders remains confident in his ability to make the necessary changes to strengthen the Buffs’ roster for the 2026 season.

As the portal window opens in January, Sanders is optimistic about the team’s prospects and is determined to make the right moves to improve their performance next season.
