Air New Zealand’s Airbus A320 aircraft have successfully completed software updates following a global recall, allowing them to resume normal operations.

Approximately 6000 aircraft from the Airbus A320 family were impacted by the recall after a recent incident highlighted the potential for intense solar radiation to compromise elements of the planes’ flight control systems.

Nathan McGraw, Air New Zealand’s chief safety and risk officer, expressed gratitude towards customers for their patience during the 27 flight cancellations over the weekend. He emphasized the airline’s efforts to minimize disruptions, complete updates promptly, and ensure smooth travel experiences for passengers.

McGraw reassured that the weekend’s disruptions would not have any lasting effects on operations. Jetstar, which had to cancel about 90 flights, also confirmed the completion of software upgrades and the resumption of service.

Air New Zealand has provided affected customers with options to make one free change within seven days of their original travel date, hold fare value in credit for 12 months, or request a refund, including for non-refundable fares. Jetstar is actively working on solutions for affected customers and reaching out to them directly.
