Sky has unveiled the trailer for the highly anticipated prequel series, “Gomorrah – The Series. The Origins,” which serves as a precursor to the popular Neapolitan mob drama “Gomorrah.” This new show, set in the 1970s, delves into the origins of mobster Pietro Savastano, the head of the notorious drug-dealing clan in the original series. Portrayed by 16-year-old Naples native Luca Lubrano, Savastano’s journey from a street kid in the impoverished Naples slum of Secondigliano to a powerful mob boss is at the heart of this six-part limited series.
Scheduled for a January release in Italy, “Gomorrah – The Series. The Origins” will also launch in other European countries where Sky operates, including the UK and Germany, in early 2026. The trailer teases a gripping narrative that follows Savastano’s evolution from a young hustler to a seasoned crime lord, exploring themes of violence, alliances, betrayals, and the price of a life entrenched in criminal activities.
Leading the prequel series is Marco D’Amore, known for his role as the ruthless Ciro Di Marzio in the original “Gomorrah.” Drawing inspiration from Sergio Leone’s classic “Once Upon a Time in America,” D’Amore infuses the show with a tone that sets it apart from its predecessor. Producer Riccardo Tozzi describes “Gomorrah – The Series. The Origins” as a blend of familiar characters and a fresh narrative, offering viewers a different perspective of Naples that borders on fantasy.
Produced by Sky Studios and Cattleya, a part of ITV Studios, and distributed internationally by Beta Film, “Gomorrah – The Series. The Origins” promises to captivate audiences with its immersive storytelling and compelling characters. Following the success of the original series, which aired from 2014 to 2021 and garnered a global following, this prequel aims to further explore the intricate web of crime and power in the underworld of Naples.
Stay tuned for the release of “Gomorrah – The Series. The Origins” as it takes viewers on a journey back in time to witness the genesis of a legendary mob dynasty. Embrace the allure of Naples in the 1970s and witness the makings of a formidable crime empire in this gripping prequel to one of Italy’s most acclaimed TV exports.
