An unsettling tragedy unfolded in Long Island when a disturbed teenager was charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend in a failed murder-suicide attempt. Austin Lynch, the accused killer, reportedly became enraged when his former girlfriend, Emily Finn, left for college and ultimately ended their three-year relationship. In a chilling manifesto found on his phone, Lynch expressed his deep hatred towards Finn and his desire to leave this world before his 18th birthday.

The shocking details emerged during Lynch’s arraignment on a second-degree murder charge. Despite surviving a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face, Lynch appeared in court wearing green scrubs and bandages covering much of his face. Assistant District Attorney Dena Rizopoulos revealed that Lynch’s behavior escalated from obsessive to alarming after Finn broke up with him two weeks before the tragic incident.

Finn, a bright and talented ballet dancer attending SUNY Oneonta, returned home for Thanksgiving break only to be confronted by Lynch. The couple had graduated from Sayville High School after dating for three years, but their relationship began to deteriorate when Finn left for college and Lynch enlisted in the Marine Corps. Friends of Finn described Lynch as possessive, accusatory, and overbearing as the relationship crumbled.

Despite Finn’s attempts to end the relationship by blocking Lynch on her phone and social media accounts, Lynch made multiple trips to see her at school, leading to heated arguments. Finally, Finn decided to break things off over the phone, triggering a volatile response from Lynch. On the fateful day of November 26th, Lynch’s parents heard a gunshot from inside their home and discovered Finn dead from a shotgun wound to the head, with Lynch injured nearby.

The tragic incident left the community in shock, with over a thousand mourners attending Finn’s wake to pay their respects. Suffolk County prosecutors had been awaiting Lynch’s recovery to bring murder charges against him. In court, Finn’s mother, Cliantha Finn, wept as Lynch was ordered to be held without bail. The harrowing story serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence and the importance of seeking help in abusive relationships.
