A suspect, accused of abducting a father whose tragic murder took place in the trunk of a car, appeared visibly distressed during his initial court appearance.

Jianquan Bo attended court on Tuesday morning, where he entered a plea of not guilty to charges of murder and kidnapping in the case of Shukur Aikebaer’s execution. Bo was present with legal counsel and an interpreter device.

He is scheduled to return to court on August 12.

Authorities allege that Jianquan was involved in planning the kidnapping of Aikebaer. Investigators claim that Jianquan’s brother, Zhengfeng Bo, 67, was the one who fired the lethal shots before being killed by deputies in a shooting incident.

The events unfolded at approximately 10:14 p.m. on July 29. Investigators report that Zhengfeng and Jianquan traveled to Aikebaer’s residence in Chino Hills, where the father of three lived. Detectives believe the suspects first disrupted the home’s power supply, apparently to lure Aikebaer outside.

When he emerged to investigate, authorities claim Zhengfeng Bo shot him once in the torso, after which the suspects allegedly forced the injured man into the trunk of their Nissan Altima and drove off.

A neighbor’s 911 call, reporting gunfire and detailing the vehicle, enabled deputies to quickly find the car. An attempted traffic stop escalated into a brief pursuit spanning about two miles before the vehicle stopped in Chino Hills.

Sheriff Shannon Dicus stated that deputies were unaware of anyone being in the trunk. Investigators allege that Zhengfeng then exited the vehicle, opened the trunk, and shot Aikebaer fatally in the head.

Deputies responded by firing back, resulting in Zhengfeng’s death at the scene. Jianquan was arrested, and Aikebaer was declared dead.

Authorities suggest that the killing was a result of a worsening business relationship, possibly tied to financial losses or disputes over company decisions.

Zhengfeng was the CEO of Panshi Inc., a commercial real estate firm, while Aikebaer served as the chief financial officer and secretary. Panshi was involved in legal action with Panoptic Development concerning control of a $20 million, 75-unit apartment complex in Pasadena.

Court documents reveal that Panshi, holding a 70% stake in the property, voted in March to remove Panoptic as the manager of the building.

San Bernardino County District Attorney Jason Anderson expressed that the events have left Zhengfeng Bo’s family devastated, during a news conference on Monday.
