A 21-year-old man, with a history of three felony convictions, is accused of collaborating with a 15-year-old boy to carjack a man at gunpoint on the Northwest Side.
According to prosecutors, the victim, a 21-year-old from Sterling, Illinois, arrived in the 4500 block of North Kenton Avenue around 10 p.m. on August 12 to meet someone. While he was texting the woman he was meeting to inform her of his arrival, a 15-year-old allegedly appeared outside his car, aiming a silver-and-black handgun at him.
The teenager reportedly opened the driver’s door, grabbed the victim by the arm, and forced him out of his 2025 Volkswagen Jetta, keeping the gun to his neck. Prosecutors stated the boy demanded the victim’s belongings and instructed him to unlock his phone.
While the victim stood with his hands raised, Williams allegedly took the passenger seat, and the two drove off.
The woman the victim intended to meet came outside just as the hijackers drove away, seeing the victim with his hands up. She called 911 and, since the victim was sharing his location with her, she provided this information to the police, as noted in the detention filing.
Shortly after, a license plate reader detected the Jetta, and officers from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office helicopter unit located the vehicle near 21st Street and South Loomis Street. The air unit tracked the car until it crashed, according to prosecutors.
Williams and the juvenile were apprehended after allegedly fleeing the crash site. Williams wore a ski mask, and a firearm was discovered next to the juvenile, as per the allegations.
The victim identified the juvenile from a photo lineup but was only 90% sure about identifying Williams, who had been wearing a ski mask, prosecutors stated.
Williams denied any knowledge of the car being stolen, claiming the boy had picked him up in the vehicle. However, prosecutors noted Williams also told police that he and the boy had been together since 6 p.m., approximately four hours before the hijacking.
Williams faces charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm. The juvenile, whose identity is not disclosed due to his age, faces the same charge, along with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon. Additionally, he had an active warrant, police revealed.
Judge John Hock approved prosecutors’ request to detain Williams pending trial.
