Meta Delays Release of Mixed Reality Glasses Codenamed Phoenix to First Half of 2027

According to a report by Business Insider, Meta is in the process of developing new mixed reality glasses under the codename Phoenix. Originally slated for release in the second half of 2026, the launch date has now been pushed back to the first half of 2027.

While Meta, the parent company of Facebook, already offers VR headsets and Ray-Ban smart glasses, the upcoming mixed reality glasses are said to have a different form factor. Reports suggest that they will be similar in design to the Apple Vision Pro, featuring a puck-like power source.

The delay in the release of these glasses comes after Meta executives, including CEO Mark Zuckerberg, decided to prioritize sustainability and the delivery of high-quality experiences. Memos obtained by Business Insider indicate that the delay was announced following meetings where Zuckerberg emphasized the importance of taking the necessary time to ensure the success of the product.

Meta’s metaverse leaders, Gabriel Aul and Ryan Cairns, expressed that the delay will allow the company to focus on getting the details right and ultimately deliver a superior product to consumers. This decision aligns with Meta’s commitment to providing innovative and immersive experiences within the metaverse.

In a related development, Bloomberg recently reported that Meta is planning to reduce its metaverse budget by up to 30%. This strategic shift in budget allocation reflects Meta’s efforts to streamline its operations and focus on key priorities within the metaverse ecosystem.
