Following the Indianapolis Colts’ 36-19 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 14, quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a devastating injury. Jones tore his Achilles tendon in a non-contact incident and is now set to undergo surgery, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.

Despite Jones being a standout performer for the Colts this season, former NFL defensive end Chris Long has suggested that the team should hold off on any contract extensions for the quarterback following his injury. Long expressed his views on his “Green Light” show, stating that while Jones had earned his paycheck, the uncertainty surrounding his recovery from such a serious injury should be taken into consideration.

Long emphasized the challenges quarterbacks often face when returning from Achilles injuries, citing the lengthy recovery time and potential impact on performance. With Jones reportedly signing a one-year, $14 million deal with the Colts in the offseason, the team now faces a tough decision on whether to commit to him long term.

In the wake of Jones’ injury, Riley Leonard is expected to step in as the Colts’ starting quarterback for the remainder of the season. Leonard took over from Jones in Week 14 and put up a solid performance, completing 18 of 29 passes for 145 yards with an interception and a rushing touchdown.

However, Leonard is currently dealing with a knee injury, and his availability for the upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 15 is uncertain. The Colts will be hoping for a swift recovery from Leonard to maintain their momentum as they push for a playoff spot.

As the Colts navigate the challenges of losing their starting quarterback to injury, the team must now rally behind Leonard and make the necessary adjustments to keep their postseason hopes alive. The road ahead may be tough, but with the right mindset and determination, the Colts can overcome this setback and continue their pursuit of success in the NFL.
