Luigi Mangione, the man accused of killing a health care insurance CEO in New York, may have inadvertently left a crucial reminder behind that could have helped police apprehend him sooner. During his arrest at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania last December, items found in his backpack included a handwritten to-do list with a reminder to “pluck eyebrows.”

This oversight may have played a role in Mangione’s capture, as his distinctive bushy eyebrows were a key identifying feature for the police tipster who recognized him despite his attempts to conceal his face with a mask and hat. Mangione is facing charges for the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in a shooting incident in Midtown Manhattan.

During a pretrial hearing, prosecutors presented evidence of Mangione’s arrest, including the contents of his backpack, which also contained a gun, a loaded magazine, SIM cards, a hand-drawn map of Pittsburgh, and unused tweezers. The defense is arguing that the search of the backpack was unlawful and that the evidence should be excluded from the trial.

Officer Stephen Fox of the Altoona Police Department testified about the search of the backpack, highlighting the various items found inside. The defense team’s contention is that Mangione’s rights were violated during the search and that the evidence should not be admissible in court. The judge will make a ruling on this matter in January.
