After over 40 years of entertaining audiences, production on the iconic Australian soap opera “Neighbours” has officially wrapped for Prime Video. The cast filmed their final scenes at Nunawading studios on Friday, marking the end of an era for the beloved series. The show will air its last episodes in December, bringing Amazon’s two-year revival to a close.
“Neighbours” has been a staple of Australian television, launching the careers of global superstars like Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, and Margot Robbie. Amazon’s rescue effort added 460 episodes to the show’s legacy of over 9,000 episodes, chronicling the lives and dramas of Melbourne’s fictional Erinsborough residents.
Executive producer Jason Herbison expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to create the recent seasons of the show, stating, “We have added 460 episodes to our legacy of over 9,000 episodes, something we all feel proud of. Once again, we will be resting the residents of Ramsay Street on a hopeful note, with some tantalizing possibilities for a future chapter.”
Under Amazon’s stewardship, “Neighbours” experienced consistent Top 10 rankings in the U.K. and earned a 2024 Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Daytime Series, highlighting its continued popularity and success.
For many of the series’ veteran cast members, the wrap marks the end of career-defining runs. Stars like Stefan Dennis, Alan Fletcher, and Jackie Woodburne reflected on their time on the show, expressing gratitude for the experiences and memories they have gained over the years.
The cancellation of “Neighbours” marks the end of a series that has become deeply embedded in international television culture. With its final episodes set to air in December, fans will bid farewell to a show that has left a lasting impact on audiences around the world.
