CAÑON CITY, Colo. — A former Fremont County Sheriff’s Office deputy is set to appear in court on Tuesday facing charges linked to allegations of excessive force, as reported by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

According to reports, fellow deputies witnessed Luis Mora-Huerta, 62, using excessive force on a 57-year-old inmate and promptly reported the incident to their superiors.

Colleagues accused Deputy Mora-Huerta of employing a technique known as the “c-clamp” position on the inmate, where he placed his right hand on the inmate’s neck while the inmate was pressed against a wall.

During the incident, the inmate reportedly stated, “he’s choking me,” to which Deputy Mora-Huerta allegedly responded, “yes I am.” It is worth mentioning that chokeholds are prohibited for peace officers, as per the CBI guidelines.
