21-Year-Old Man Released from Prison Accused of Violent Armed Robbery Spree in Chicago

A 21-year-old man who was released from prison on the same day he arrived in August is now facing charges for being part of a violent armed robbery crew responsible for 28 holdups in Chicago during November. Marquis Terry, who was previously sentenced to five years in prison for possessing a stolen, loaded machine gun, is now accused of participating in a series of violent robberies across the city.

Prosecutors have filed charges against Terry in four of the robbery cases, including one where a victim was kidnapped and taken to multiple Chase Bank locations across the city. Terry, who is still on parole for the machine gun case, is now facing charges for his alleged involvement in a violent robbery spree that took place in the early hours of November 19.

Violent Robbery Spree

The first robbery occurred around 2:09 a.m. in the 1700 block of North Keeler. Three men approached a 38-year-old man at a stop sign, pointed guns at him, and proceeded to assault him, stealing his belongings including his wallet, passport, and phone. Surveillance footage captured the entire incident.

Shortly after, a 52-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint while taking out the trash in the 4100 block of West 26th Street. Terry and another man, both armed and wearing masks, demanded the man’s belongings and struck him in the head with a gun.

Another robbery took place at 2:34 a.m. in the 2700 block of Saint Louis Avenue, where Terry and three other men assaulted a 34-year-old man, stole his phone, and forced him to transfer money between accounts at a Chase bank.

The group then proceeded to different Chase bank locations in an attempt to withdraw money from the victim’s account. Despite encountering police presence at one of the branches, they managed to successfully withdraw the daily maximum of $1,000 before fleeing the scene.

Arrest and Charges

After abandoning the victim in an alley, the group was located by police, and Terry was arrested on multiple charges including armed robbery, armed kidnapping, and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm. A search of the getaway vehicle revealed wallets and phones belonging to multiple victims.

Investigators later found a Jeep used in the robbery spree, with one of the suspected accomplices found nearby. GPS data from the phones of the suspects, including Terry, showed consistent movements with the vehicles used during the robberies.

Terry’s history of criminal activity includes a previous incident where a stolen, loaded machine gun was found in his high school locker. He was arrested and charged for possessing the weapon, which led to a five-year prison sentence. Despite his release on the same day he arrived in prison, Terry now faces serious charges for his alleged involvement in the violent armed robbery crew responsible for multiple holdups in Chicago.
