A recent study published by the CDC has found that COVID vaccines have significantly reduced the risk of emergency room or urgent care visits in children. The study showed that the vaccines decreased the risk by 76 percent in children aged nine months through four years, and by 56 percent in children aged five through 17, compared to those who did not receive the vaccine.

The findings, published in the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, reaffirm the effectiveness of the vaccines in preventing severe disease in children. The study looked at data from nine states over a period from August 29, 2024, through September 2, 2025, and found that vaccination with a 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine dose provided children with additional protection against COVID-19-associated emergency department or urgent care encounters.

The report highlighted that children under six months old had the highest hospitalization rate, with 600 per 100,000 being hospitalized. However, children under six months are too young to be vaccinated, but vaccination during pregnancy can provide some protection for the first six months of life.

The study’s findings are in contrast to recent statements made by Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who has criticized the COVID vaccine without evidence. Kennedy called the vaccine “the deadliest vaccine ever made,” despite numerous studies showing the vaccines to be safe and effective in saving millions of lives worldwide.

In light of these findings, it is crucial to support science journalism and ensure that accurate information is disseminated to the public. Scientific American, a publication that has been advocating for science and industry for 180 years, relies on subscriptions to continue its important work. By subscribing to Scientific American, individuals can help support meaningful research and discovery, report on critical scientific decisions, and promote the value of science in society.

Now more than ever, it is essential to stand up for science and support reputable sources of information like Scientific American. By subscribing to the publication, readers can access essential news, podcasts, infographics, newsletters, videos, games, and the best science writing and reporting available. Supporting science journalism is crucial in ensuring that accurate and reliable information reaches the public and that the value of science is recognized in society. The world is constantly changing and evolving, and one of the most exciting developments in recent years is the rise of artificial intelligence. AI has the potential to revolutionize almost every aspect of our lives, from the way we work to how we communicate and even how we think.

Artificial intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. These processes include learning, reasoning, problem-solving, perception, and language understanding. AI has the ability to analyze and interpret vast amounts of data far more quickly and efficiently than any human ever could.

One of the most significant ways that AI is being used is in the field of healthcare. AI is being used to analyze medical data and help diagnose diseases more accurately and quickly than ever before. It can also help to personalize treatment plans for patients based on their individual needs and medical history.

In the world of business, AI is being used to streamline processes and improve efficiency. Chatbots, for example, are being used by many companies to provide customer service and support. These bots can answer common questions, process orders, and even make recommendations based on a customer’s preferences.

AI is also being used in the field of transportation, with companies like Tesla developing self-driving cars that use AI to navigate roads and avoid obstacles. This technology has the potential to revolutionize the way we travel and could help to reduce accidents and traffic congestion.

However, with all of these advancements also come concerns about the ethical implications of AI. Many people worry about the potential for AI to replace human jobs and the impact that could have on society. There are also concerns about the potential for AI to be used for malicious purposes, such as in the development of autonomous weapons.

Despite these concerns, the potential benefits of AI are vast. From improving healthcare outcomes to revolutionizing transportation and business, AI has the potential to change the world in ways we can’t even imagine. As technology continues to advance, it will be important for us to carefully consider the ethical implications of AI and ensure that it is being used in a way that benefits all of humanity.
