McDonald’s Ice Cream Machines Can Finally Be Repaired More Easily

McDonald’s ice cream machines have long been notorious for breaking down frequently, leaving customers disappointed when they visit the restaurant only to find that their favorite McFlurry or soft serve dessert is unavailable. This issue has been exacerbated by strict copyright laws that restrict who can legally repair these machines.

The manufacturers of McDonald’s ice cream machines require technicians to be specially licensed in order to perform repairs, and they even go as far as putting locks on the machines to prevent unauthorized individuals from fixing them. This has led to a frustrating situation for both franchise owners and customers alike.

However, a recent federal ruling has brought hope to the right to repair community. 404 Media reported on Friday that technicians are now legally allowed to hack their way around the locks on McDonald’s ice cream machines, making it easier for them to perform repairs and get the machines up and running again.

One of the key players in this victory is iFixit, a website that provides how-to guides for tech repairs. Last year, they released a video breakdown of McFlurry machines, demonstrating how to bypass the manufacturer’s locks with a simple device. Despite McDonald’s previous discouragement of using such methods, franchise owners are now free to utilize these techniques to keep their ice cream machines in working order.
