A notorious burglar with a long history of convictions has once again found himself behind bars after pleading guilty to a series of break-ins on Chicago’s North Side earlier this year. Lamont Gordon, a 58-year-old man with 23 prior burglary convictions, has now added four more cases to his record, bringing his total to 27.

Gordon received a nine-year sentence for his latest crimes after entering his plea before Judge Ursula Walowski. He will be eligible for release in July 2029 after serving half of his term. The string of burglaries that led to Gordon’s arrest was first brought to the public’s attention through a community alert issued by the Chicago Police Department in January 2025. The alert included surveillance images and video footage of the suspect, which ultimately led to Gordon’s identification by a vigilant police officer.

Patrol officers eventually caught up with Gordon in the early hours of the morning as he walked along West Devon Avenue with a screwdriver and flashlight in hand. Despite initially denying any involvement in the burglaries, Gordon confessed to the crimes after being shown the incriminating surveillance footage.

Prosecutors charged Gordon with burglarizing several North Side businesses, including River and Road Cafe, Vee-Vee’s African Restaurant, Falafel Kebab Station, and Nohadra Grocery. In each case, Gordon was accused of stealing cash from registers and offices. This was not Gordon’s first run-in with the law, as he had been released from prison in July 2024 after serving a fraction of a seven-year sentence for similar crimes committed in 2021.

Gordon’s criminal history is extensive, with a long list of burglary convictions dating back nearly four decades. His past offenses include multiple concurrent sentences ranging from 5 to 14 years for various burglaries and armed home invasion charges. Despite his lengthy rap sheet, Gordon’s criminal activities persisted, leading to his latest conviction and subsequent incarceration.
