Nicolás Maduro: A Dictator in Desperation Amid U.S. Pressure.

In an unexpected twist, Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro has moved the Christmas season to October as he grapples with increasing pressure from the United States. Simultaneously, he has turned his security forces inward to weed out supposed traitors looking to cash in on a $50 million bounty for his arrest.

In a show of defiance, Maduro has activated all Bolivarian militias, conducted military drills, and sought to establish alliances with foreign leaders. His desperate bid to stabilize his administration saw him engage in negotiations with Richard Grennell, only to have U.S. President Donald J. Trump kill off any prospects of diplomacy.

Now, with his back against the wall, Maduro has called upon Indigenous tribes throughout South America to unite in defense of Venezuela.

Latin Times reported:

“Venezuela’s authoritarian President Nicolás Maduro has urged Indigenous peoples across South America to assemble ‘brigades’ to protect the nation against what he perceives as an escalating threat from the United States.”

In a speech on the Day of Indigenous Resistance—an alternative to Columbus Day—Maduro called for solidarity among the ‘popular, military, and police forces’ to safeguard Venezuela’s sovereignty amid rising tensions with Washington.

“The order is given: to secure peace and exercise permanent sovereignty in our territory and seas,” Maduro proclaimed during a ceremony at the National Pantheon in Caracas, adorned in a colorful feathered headdress. “We are an indestructible people, preparing to win peace—peace with freedom, sovereignty, and independence.”

The Venezuelan leader claimed to have received correspondence from Indigenous groups across Latin America expressing readiness to “fight” alongside Venezuela if the U.S. were to initiate military action. “If you want peace, prepare to win peace with unity,” he stated, ordering an expansion of Indigenous militias to stand ready for conflict.

This dramatic address follows the announcement that opposition figure María Corina Machado has been awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, a move that has understandably enraged Maduro and his supporters. Referring to her as a “demonic witch,” he condemned what he labeled a “tiny minority filled with hatred that calls for an invasion of Venezuela.”
