More Exciting Deals Announced Following Ventana Sur
After the conclusion of Ventana Sur, the largest film-TV market in Latin America held in Buenos Aires, more deals are being unveiled in the industry.
In the latest agreement, Cinephobia Releasing has acquired the North American rights to the Argentine horror film, “The Dollmaker,” from U.K. genre specialist Jinga Films.
Raymond Murray, president of Cinephobia, negotiated the deal with Julian Richards, director of Jinga Films. Richards’ company initially obtained the world sales rights to the psychological thriller at last year’s Ventana Sur and has since secured distribution in various European territories.
Describing “The Dollmaker,” Murray expressed his excitement, calling it “creepy, weird, bloody, and surreal,” and stating that the company is thrilled to introduce this original film to both art and genre audiences.
The film is set in a quiet village where a young man named Tomás leads a mundane life until women start disappearing, prompting suspicion to fall on him.
Directed by Jose María Cicala and co-written with Griselda Sánchez, “The Dollmaker” features a talented cast including Rodrigo Noya, Griselda Sánchez, Alejo García Pintos, and more.
Richards praised the film, stating that it combines the suspense of Alfred Hitchcock with the surrealism of David Lynch to create a unique and unpredictable thriller that will captivate genre fans.
“The Dollmaker” made its debut as a work-in-progress at Ventana Sur’s Blood Windows showcase in 2023 and has already garnered attention, including a Best Actor prize for Rodrigo Noya at its U.S. premiere at Screamfest in Los Angeles.
Cinephobia Releasing plans to continue the film’s festival run and aims for a limited theatrical release in the Summer of 2026, followed by on-demand and digital distribution.
In addition to “The Dollmaker,” Cinephobia Releasing also secured the North American rights to Sergio Tovar Velarde’s LGBT dramedy, “The Divine Tragedy,” at Ventana Sur, further expanding their diverse film portfolio.
With these recent acquisitions and plans for distribution, Cinephobia Releasing continues to solidify its presence in the genre and LGBTQ+ film market, promising exciting content for audiences in the coming years.
