A recent statement made by a major star has raised concerns about the future of AEW’s partnership with NJPW. The close relationship between the Jacksonville-based promotion and NJPW has been evident through the collaboration between their stars. Konosuke Takeshita, the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, is at the center of this partnership, but his reign may be in jeopardy.

In a recent interview with Tokyo Sports, Yota Tsuji, Takeshita’s upcoming opponent at Wrestle Kingdom 2, publicly criticized the AEW star for not appearing in NJPW despite holding the world championship. Tsuji accused Takeshita of making excuses and being self-centered, stating, “He just wants to show off his own strength, doesn’t he? I admit he is an incredible athlete—I’m saying this based on that fact—but he’s just a pathetic, self-satisfied jerk.”

Tsuji went on to express his concerns about the implications of their upcoming title match. He feared that if Takeshita continued to hold the championship, NJPW would become a developmental system for AEW. This added pressure on Tsuji to win at Wrestle Kingdom and restore the value of the IWGP Heavyweight title.

Meanwhile, Takeshita is also participating in the AEW Continental Classic, where he is a favorite to win the Blue League and challenge Kazuchika Okada for the Continental Championship. With an impressive record in the tournament so far, Takeshita could potentially hold three belts if he emerges victorious at Wrestle Kingdom.

The ongoing rivalry between Takeshita and Tsuji is not only about individual glory but also about the future of both promotions. The outcome of their match at Wrestle Kingdom could have far-reaching consequences for the partnership between AEW and NJPW. As fans eagerly await the showdown between these two talented competitors, the stakes have never been higher.

In conclusion, the clash between Takeshita and Tsuji represents more than just a battle for championship gold. It is a pivotal moment that could shape the future of both AEW and NJPW. As the wrestling world waits with bated breath, the outcome of their match at Wrestle Kingdom will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the landscape of professional wrestling.
