Google and Apple Warn Employees About Visa Processing Delays

Law firms representing Google and Apple have issued warnings to employees regarding visa processing delays that could potentially impact their ability to re-enter the United States. According to a report by Business Insider, memos from BAL Immigration Law (representing Google) and Fragomen (representing Apple) have highlighted concerns about longer-than-usual visa processing times.

The memo from Fragomen reportedly advised employees without a valid H-1B visa stamp to avoid international travel due to the unpredictable and extended delays they may face when returning to the U.S. The firm emphasized the importance of staying cautious amidst the current visa processing challenges.

According to Business Insider, a State Department spokesperson acknowledged that embassies are prioritizing thorough vetting of each visa case, leading to delays in processing times. This heightened scrutiny has been attributed to recent updates in visa processing procedures.

Additionally, Salon reported that numerous Indian professionals seeking to renew their U.S. work visas in December have experienced cancellations or rescheduling of embassy appointments due to new requirements for social media vetting. This further complicates the visa renewal process for individuals affected by these changes.

Both Google and Apple, as well as other major tech employers, have been proactive in addressing the challenges faced by employees seeking visa renewals. In September, warnings were issued by these companies following the announcement of a $100,000 fee for H-1B visa applications by the White House.

JS has reached out to Google and Apple for further comments on the current visa processing situation. As uncertainties loom over international travel and visa renewals, employees are advised to stay informed and cautious to avoid any potential disruptions in their re-entry to the United States.
