Former India bowler Amit Mishra has made a bold statement regarding star batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma after the T20I series against South Africa. The Men in Blue emerged victorious in the five-match series by a margin of 3-1.

As the series marked the end of South Africa’s multi-format tour, Mishra expressed his belief that Kohli and Rohit should be included in the squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup. He attributed India’s loss in the Test series against South Africa to a lack of experience and emphasized the importance of seasoned players on the big stage. Mishra asserted that while he supports the inclusion of Kohli and Rohit, it is crucial for them to maintain consistent performance levels.

In the ODI series against South Africa, Kohli accumulated 302 runs in three games at an impressive average of 151 and a strike rate of 117.05, including two centuries and a fifty. Meanwhile, Rohit contributed 146 runs at an average of 48.66 and a strike rate of 110.60 with two half-centuries.

Following the Test series defeat, the pressure has intensified on India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir. Mishra described Gambhir as a positive individual and defended his coaching abilities. He acknowledged that player performance on the field is paramount and attributed some of the team’s struggles to a lack of experience in the Test squad.

India’s record in home Tests under Gambhir’s tenure has been subpar, with five losses in seven matches, marking a concerning trend for the team.

Mishra also shared insights on how India can improve their performance in home Tests. He emphasized the need for mental toughness and a resilient mindset, regardless of the pitch conditions. Drawing from India’s successful performance in the away Test series against England, Mishra urged the players to adopt a similar approach and attitude when playing at home.

The former spinner highlighted the importance of player adaptation, performance under pressure, and self-improvement in overcoming challenges in Test cricket. Mishra pointed out that India had managed to level the series against England with an inexperienced side and emphasized the significance of a proactive mindset in all conditions.

India’s recent struggles in Test cricket, including a whitewash against New Zealand in 2024 and a series loss to South Africa in 2027, underscore the team’s need for introspection and improvement in home conditions.

In conclusion, Mishra’s insights shed light on the key areas where India must focus to enhance their performance in Test cricket, emphasizing the importance of experience, mental fortitude, and adaptability. As India looks to rectify their home Test record and prepare for future challenges, the wisdom shared by Mishra serves as a valuable guide for the team’s progress.
