Man Sentenced to Probation for Road Rage Attack with Baseball Bat in Logan Square

A man charged with attacking another driver with a baseball bat during a road rage incident in Logan Square has pleaded guilty and been sentenced to probation, court records show.

Dylan Berrio, 26, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery causing great bodily harm in the Logan Square case and to aggravated battery of a peace officer in an unrelated matter. Judge Thomas Byrne sentenced Berrio to two years of probation and ordered him to complete anger management counseling, along with other conditions.

Prosecutors said the road rage attack happened around 4:30 a.m. on December 19, 2024, in the 2600 block of North Milwaukee Avenue.

Berrio, who lives in Franklin Park, allegedly drove head-on toward another vehicle and, after the near-collision, got out of his car holding a metal baseball bat to confront the other driver.

Authorities said Berrio reached into the victim’s vehicle and struck him approximately ten times with the bat.

The victim, a 37-year-old man, initially declined medical attention but later sought treatment after experiencing severe pain and injuries. Doctors determined that he had suffered a broken nose and shattered nasal cartilage, and prosecutors said the injuries required surgery and would result in permanent disfigurement.

Despite his injuries, the victim was able to call 911 and provide police with a description of the attacker and the vehicle involved, including a license plate number.

Chicago police determined the plate was registered to a vehicle Berrio was renting at the time of the attack. Prosecutors said surveillance footage from a CPD camera about a block from the scene corroborated the victim’s account, and the victim later identified Berrio in a photo lineup.

Berrio had been detained in the Cook County Jail since his arrest in January before resolving both cases with guilty pleas.
