Following three days of intense rainfall that led to flash flooding and mudslides in Southern California, residents in Wrightwood are now faced with the daunting task of cleaning up the aftermath.

The storm, which hit the greater Los Angeles area just before Christmas, brought up to 6 inches of rain to the region, with even higher amounts recorded in the nearby mountains.

Originating from an atmospheric river storm, the heavy downpours were accompanied by strong winds, causing widespread damage including fallen trees and power outages.

Prior to the storm’s arrival, evacuation warnings were issued for vulnerable areas, especially those near hillsides previously affected by wildfires.

Despite the rainfall easing on Friday, a flood watch remains in effect for Southern California.

Residents of Wrightwood, a mountain town hit hardest by the storm, are now assessing the extent of the damage caused by the mudslides.

Despite the challenges faced by the community, emergency teams have been working tirelessly to ensure the safety of residents and mitigate further damage.

As recovery efforts continue, the focus remains on providing support to those affected and rebuilding the impacted areas.
