Tragic Helicopter Crash in New Jersey Leaves One Dead and Another Injured
On Sunday, a devastating midair collision between two helicopters above New Jersey resulted in one fatality and another individual sustaining critical injuries. The incident, which occurred above Hammonton Municipal Airport, has left the community in shock.
Hammonton Police Chief Kevin Friel addressed the media, stating that officers responded to reports of the crash around 11:30 AM ET. Upon arrival, police and fire crews worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames engulfing the wreckage.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the collision involved an Enstrom F-28A helicopter and an Enstrom 280C helicopter. The severity of the crash was captured in a video that circulated online, showing one of the helicopters spiraling towards the ground before disappearing behind buildings.
The impact caused both helicopters to burst into flames, sending thick plumes of smoke into the air. The harrowing scene unfolded as emergency responders rushed to the site to assess the situation.
Tragically, both helicopters were mostly empty, with only the pilots on board. Regrettably, one pilot lost their life in the crash, while the other remains in critical condition, fighting for survival.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board have initiated an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the collision and prevent similar tragedies in the future. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those affected by this heartbreaking event.
