“Daily Show” Correspondent Jordan Klepper Sees Shift in MAGA Supporters During Trump’s Second Term
During his time as a correspondent on the “Daily Show,” Jordan Klepper has interviewed many of President Donald Trump’s most ardent supporters. In a recent interview with People, Klepper revealed that he has noticed a significant change in these supporters between Trump’s first and second terms.
Klepper pointed out that the change he has observed is “the lack of defensiveness from the MAGA faithful.” He explained, “There had always been a trepidation in some of these conversations about some of the crueler, more aggressive actions taken by a Trump administration. However, in the second term, MAGA supporters are no longer defensive but rather celebratory of Trump’s actions.”
While many in the MAGA base and pro-Trump pundits have praised Trump’s policies, there has been some pushback from both Republicans and Democrats, particularly in response to ongoing strikes on alleged drug boats from Venezuela.
Aside from the change in MAGA supporters, Klepper also noted a shift in the Democratic movement. He mentioned that the Trump era has shifted the focus of the “Daily Show” from crafting stories to playing catch-up with the fast-paced news cycle.
Klepper, who has covered numerous Trump rallies and events like the Capitol riots, expressed surprise at the lack of defensiveness from Trump supporters in his recent interactions with them. He also found hope in the Democratic movement during a protest in Portland, Oregon, where demonstrators protested Trump’s immigration policies with “joy and vigor.”
Reflecting on the current political climate, Klepper emphasized the importance of commenting on current events and being a part of the cultural dialogue. He believes that it is crucial to address what is happening in the news and engage with the issues that impact society.
