Canal+ and Warner Bros. Discovery Sign Multi-Year Agreement to Expand HBO Max

Canal+ and Warner Bros. Discovery have recently announced a new multi-year, multi-territory agreement to further strengthen their partnership on an international scale. This agreement includes the expansion of HBO Max to two additional countries, marking a significant milestone in the collaboration between the two companies.

Under this new pact, the distribution of HBO Max via Canal+ will be renewed in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania. Additionally, HBO Max will now be available in Belgium and Austria. The partnership also includes the renewal of distribution for Cartoon Network, Cartoonito, and CNN International in Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, as well as Warner TV in the Czech Republic.

In MultiChoice Group territories in Africa, the agreement will see the renewal of distribution for 12 WBD thematic channels, including popular networks such as CNN International, Cartoon Network, Discovery Channel, and more.

This latest agreement between Warner Bros. Discovery and Canal+ builds upon previous deals that were struck in 2024. These include the exclusive pay-TV window for Warner Bros. Pictures films in France, as well as the integration of HBO Max within select Canal+ group offerings.

The timing of this agreement is particularly interesting, as it comes amidst Netflix’s pending acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. This acquisition could potentially position Canal+ as a major player on the global stage, especially considering Canal+’s existing distribution deals with Netflix. During a recent appearance at Canal+ Group’s Paris showcase, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos expressed his intentions to continue releasing Warner Bros. studio movies in theaters with traditional windows, followed by distribution through the Canal+ output deal.
