Vecna has once again caused chaos, this time targeting the popular streaming service Netflix. The platform experienced a crash on Wednesday night as the highly anticipated series finale of “Stranger Things” premiered. This is not the first time Netflix has faced technical difficulties during a major release, with a similar incident occurring just a few weeks ago during the Season 5 premiere on Nov. 26.

The crash occurred right at 5 p.m. PT, coinciding with the release time of the “Stranger Things 5” finale. Users trying to access the platform were met with an error message and an image from “Nailed It!” stating, “Something went wrong. Sorry, we’re having trouble with your request. You’ll find lots to explore on the home page.” Fortunately, the issue was resolved after a few minutes and a couple of refreshes.

This is not the first time technical issues have plagued Netflix during a major release. Season 4 of “Stranger Things” also caused disruptions back in July 2022 when the final episodes were dropped. Additionally, the platform faced livestream problems during the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul boxing match last year.

Despite the challenges, Netflix managed to survive the release of the second batch of “Stranger Things” Season 5 episodes on Christmas Day without any technical glitches. The new episodes propelled Netflix to its highest viewership ever on Christmas Day, with Season 5 becoming the most-watched title worldwide. The fifth and final season received 34.5 million views between Dec. 22-28, marking the second-best weekly total after its debut with 59.6 million views in November.

In a surprising move, the series finale of “Stranger Things” is also set to premiere in select theaters on New Year’s Eve. Co-creator Ross Duffer shared on Instagram that 1.1 million people have RSVP’d to theatrical screenings, with 3,500 screenings already sold out across 620 theaters.

“What a way to close out a 10-year journey — together,” wrote Ross Duffer alongside his brother and co-creator Matt Duffer. “Maybe we’ll see some of you in LA.” The success of “Stranger Things” Season 5 has solidified its place as a cultural phenomenon and a fan favorite, promising an epic conclusion to the beloved series.
