A disturbing video circulating online captured the moments leading up to a shooting in the West Loop on Sunday evening. The footage suggests that the attack may have been gang-related, adding to the concerns of escalating violence in the area.
The shooting took place around 10:38 p.m. in the 200 block of North Peoria, according to the Chicago Police Department. While the motive for the shooting was not provided by the authorities, a brief video shared on Instagram by the account Chitown Gangs sheds some light on the brutal nature of the incident.
In the video, several men can be seen surrounding a 25-year-old victim, kicking and punching him as he tries to defend himself on the sidewalk. The attackers seem to taunt the man during the beating, adding to the sense of violence and aggression in the situation. Moments later, a single gunshot is heard on the recording, followed by the victim screaming in pain as the assailants, including the person filming the video, flee from the scene.
Despite sustaining a gunshot wound below his right knee, the victim managed to make his way to a nearby bar, where a staff member provided first aid until help arrived. The victim was then taken to Northwestern Hospital, where he was reported to be in fair condition.
