Zohran Mamdani Sworn in as Mayor of New York City in Intimate Ceremony
Just a few minutes after the iconic ball dropped in Times Square, marking the beginning of 2026, Zohran Mamdani took the oath of office as the new mayor of New York City. The intimate ceremony took place in an abandoned subway station near City Hall, with a small gathering of reporters and his close family members in attendance.
For the occasion, Mayor Mamdani opted for a stylish black velvet suit featuring a long, slim-fitting jacket paired with a white shirt and a herringbone tie adorned with delicate embroidered four-petal flowers.
His wife, the talented artist Rama Duwaji, also made a fashion statement with her ensemble. She wore a matching asymmetrical, funnel-neck wool coat, a below-the-knee black skirt, and pointy-toed boots with a lace-up detail at the back, possibly from Miista, showcasing the first lady’s fashion-forward sensibilities. Duwaji accessorized her black attire with bold gold jewelry, sporting sculptural earrings and a collection of gold bracelets on her wrist.
