Professional golfer Collin Morikawa enjoys unwavering support from his wife, Katherine Zhu, who has been a significant influence in his life.
“She’s been amazing. I’m so lucky to have her,” Morikawa expressed in an interview with the Golf Channel’s “Golf Central” in August 2020. “Kat’s been by my side through it all. She would hate me if I didn’t say this, but I didn’t start winning in college until she showed up in my life.”
The PGA Tour champion and Zhu, who honed her skills as a collegiate golfer at Pepperdine University, met through a mutual friend in 2017, almost two years before Morikawa embarked on his professional career.
Zhu recalled a moment from a summer tournament, telling the New York Post in September 2020, “One of my competitors and I were just being college girls and talking about life. She said, ‘Are you seeing anyone? Let me introduce you to someone,’ and I said, ‘Sure,’ but I didn’t really think she would actually do it.”
Indeed, their mutual friend, who played golf with Morikawa at the University of California, Berkeley, shared photos from Zhu’s Instagram to capture his interest. As their relationship blossomed, they completed their college education together. Following three years of dating, Morikawa proposed to Zhu in November 2021, and they were married the following year.
