A recent viral story about a DoorDash driver using an AI-generated photo to deceive customers has been confirmed by the company.

The incident was brought to light by Austin resident Byrne Hobart, who shared his experience on social media. According to Nexstar, Hobart revealed that the driver accepted the delivery, marked it as delivered, and submitted a fake image of the order at his front door.

Following Hobart’s post, more details emerged, with another individual in Austin reporting a similar experience with the same driver. Despite acknowledging that the story could be fabricated, Hobart highlighted the consistency in the driver’s behavior.

Hobart speculated that the driver may have used a hacked account on a jailbroken phone to access prior delivery photos and create the fake image. In response to the incident, DoorDash took swift action by permanently removing the driver’s account and compensating the affected customer.

A DoorDash spokesperson emphasized the company’s zero-tolerance policy towards fraud and mentioned the use of technology and human review to detect and prevent such misconduct on their platform.
