Two Men Arrested for Carrying Loaded Firearms on CTA Red Line Platforms

A recent increase in Chicago police patrols on Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) train lines has led to the arrest of two individuals for allegedly carrying loaded firearms on CTA Red Line platforms in the Loop, as reported by CPD and court records.

On December 28th, at approximately 4:40 p.m., officers at the Roosevelt CTA station observed 24-year-old Adrian Morris riding an electric bicycle on the Red Line platform, a violation of CTA rules. When asked to dismount, Morris refused. During the interaction, officers noticed a knife on Morris, leading to his detention. Morris then disclosed that he was also in possession of a firearm, which was later identified as a loaded Glock .40-caliber pistol found in a side bag he was carrying. Morris was charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a loaded weapon and carrying a firearm after a prior conviction.

Just five days prior, on December 23rd, another man, 47-year-old Deandre Moody, was arrested at the State-Lake Red Line station for allegedly possessing a loaded firearm. Officers observed Moody holding what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette on the train. Upon being asked to exit the train for a CTA violation, Moody displayed evasive behavior. A subsequent search revealed a loaded Springfield Armory .45-caliber handgun in his possession. Moody, a repeat felon with multiple prior gun convictions, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ordered detained by the court.

These incidents highlight the success of increased police presence on CTA platforms in deterring criminal activity and ensuring the safety of commuters. The collaboration between law enforcement and public transportation authorities is crucial in maintaining a secure environment for all passengers.
