President Donald Trump has escalated tensions following the U.S. attack on Venezuela over the weekend. During comments aboard Air Force One, Trump criticized Colombia, calling it “very sick” and run by a “sick man” who is involved in cocaine trafficking to the U.S. He even hinted at a potential military operation in Colombia, saying, “It sounds good to me.” Trump also expressed concerns about Mexico needing to “get their act together,” suggesting that action may be necessary. Additionally, he mentioned the potential fall of Cuba without U.S. intervention, stating, “It looks like it’s going down.” Despite pushback from Greenland’s leaders, Trump reiterated the need for Greenland. He also hinted at the possibility of further military action in Venezuela, stating, “If they don’t behave, we will do a second strike.” Secretary of State Marco Rubio later attempted to downplay Trump’s comments about running Venezuela, emphasizing a focus on enforcing an oil quarantine. However, Trump reaffirmed his claim of U.S. control over Venezuela, stating, “It means we’re in charge.” Trump’s actions have faced backlash from lawmakers, questioning the legality of the initial attack on Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. The situation remains tense as Trump continues to assert U.S. influence in the region.
