A tragic incident unfolded in Las Vegas when a delusional man, Franklin Flores, allegedly hacked his grandmother to death with a hatchet. The 41-year-old man claimed to police that he heard “AI voices” telling him that his grandmother, Reyna Flores De Hernandez, was trying to steal his money. This shocking revelation came to light when the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department investigated the gruesome murder.

According to reports, Flores walked into Hernandez’s bedroom, kissed her on the forehead, and then carried out the brutal attack. Her body was found covered in blankets with multiple sharp-force injuries on her bed during a welfare check on Dec. 29. Flores’ wife had become concerned after he told her that his grandmother was now in heaven.

Police were able to track down and arrest Flores on a hiking trail the same day. During interviews with investigators, Flores expressed delusions about his colleagues at the warehouse where he worked, accusing them of engaging in human trafficking and plotting harm against his wife and children.

Flores believed that AI and informants were communicating with Hernandez, leading him to believe that she was involved in a conspiracy against him. He claimed that the voices had given him a “mission” to save his family, but Hernandez’s actions, such as hiding his keys and wallet, caused him to believe that she was obstructing him. This ultimately led to the tragic outcome of her murder.

Despite being diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, and PTSD, Flores admitted to not taking any prescribed medications. He remains in custody facing an open murder charge in connection with Hernandez’s death. Flores is currently held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 4.

The disturbing case sheds light on the complexities of mental health issues and the devastating consequences that can arise when individuals do not receive proper treatment and support. It serves as a reminder of the importance of recognizing and addressing mental health concerns to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
