After a tragic incident in Columbus, Ohio, where a dentist and his wife were found shot dead in their home, new details have emerged about a startling mishap during the initial police response. According to Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant, officers responding to a welfare check on Spencer Tepe, 37, and his wife Monique, 39, went to the wrong address in the Weinland Park neighborhood. The police arrived at the incorrect location around 9 a.m. on Dec. 30, but left after receiving no response at the front or back door.

Approximately 40 minutes after the officers left the area, the couple was discovered inside their home with gunshot wounds. Bryant emphasized the importance of transparency in the investigation, stating, “We have to focus on the integrity of the investigation to ensure that when we make an arrest, there is nothing that would make the case unprosecutable.”

Friends of the Tepe family had become concerned when Spencer did not show up for work at Athens Dental Depot, prompting repeated 911 calls and a wellness check. During one of the calls, a dispatcher mentioned that the police had already visited the residence but left due to no one answering the door. Subsequent calls reported a bloodied body and the sound of a child screaming inside the house.

Spencer was found with multiple gunshot wounds, while Monique had been shot at least once in the chest. Their two young children and pet dog were unharmed. Despite the lack of a weapon at the scene and no signs of forced entry, authorities do not believe the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide. An unidentified woman had called 911 eight months prior to report a domestic dispute at the Tepe residence, but it was not Monique who made the call.

Surveillance footage captured a person of interest walking near the couple’s home in the early hours of the day of the shooting, leading investigators to continue their search for answers. No suspect has been publicly identified in the case, and police suspect the attack occurred between 2 and 5 a.m. in the upstairs area of the home.

The investigation into the double homicide remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the tragic deaths of Spencer and Monique Tepe.
