Federal authorities are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the gunman who shot an armored car courier during a robbery outside a Southwest Side bank last month.

The FBI announced the reward on Friday in connection with the December 23 shooting outside the Chase Bank at 4363 South Archer Avenue.

According to authorities, the suspect approached a 49-year-old armored car courier who was outside the bank around 9:53 a.m., made a verbal demand for money, produced a firearm, and fired multiple shots. The Brinks guard was struck twice, once in each thigh, police said. He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

The FBI described the gunman as a Black male with a slim or athletic build. He was wearing a dark puffer jacket, a dark balaclava-style face mask, dark sunglasses, dark pants, and dark athletic shoes. The agency said he fled the scene in a bronze Hyundai Elantra sedan with tinted windows.

Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling the FBI at 312-421-6700 or through tips.fbi.gov.

The FBI reward is the second incentive announced in the case. Last month, Cook County Crime Stoppers offered a $1,000 reward for information related to the robbery and shooting.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of armed robberies in the city and the dangers faced by those in the security and transportation industry. It is crucial for the community to come together and provide any information that may help authorities apprehend the suspect and bring him to justice.

If you have any information regarding this case, please do not hesitate to contact the FBI or submit tips anonymously. Together, we can work towards creating a safer environment for everyone in our community.
