HBO Max Expands into Eight New European Countries
Today, HBO Max officially launches in eight new European countries, including Germany, Italy, and Austria. This expansion of the global streaming service from Warner Bros. Discovery is part of its ongoing efforts to reach audiences across Europe. With the addition of Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Israel, and Greece, HBO Max is moving closer to being available in all European countries, with the U.K. and Ireland set to launch at the end of March.
In conjunction with the launch, HBO Max has announced a new bundling deal with Prime Video in these territories, building on their existing partnership in France, Spain, Sweden, Belgium, and the Netherlands. This collaboration aims to provide viewers with a wide range of content from HBO, Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Television, the DC Universe, and Max Originals all in one place.
As part of their expansion strategy, HBO Max has secured distribution deals with various platforms in the new markets. In Germany, the service will be available on Prime Video, RTL+, and Waipu.tv. In Switzerland, agreements have been made with Sunrise and Swisscom. Additionally, customers of Telecom Italia’s TIM platform in Italy will also have access to HBO Max.
Some of the popular shows and movies available on HBO Max include “The Pitt,” “It: Welcome to Derry,” “House of the Dragon,” “The Last of Us,” “The White Lotus,” “Euphoria,” “Superman,” “The Batman,” “Dune,” and the “Harry Potter” franchise. The timing of the launch aligns with the upcoming Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, which will be broadcast live on HBO Max from Feb. 6 to 22.
JB Perrette, CEO and president of global streaming and games at Warner Bros. Discovery, expressed excitement about the expansion into major European markets and the upcoming launch in the U.K. and Ireland. HBO Max, which initially launched in the U.S. in 2020, has since expanded its reach to Latin America, Europe, and Asia, reporting 128 million global streaming subscribers in Q3 2025.
Despite the recent news of Netflix’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery raising questions about the future of HBO Max, the streamer remains focused on its European expansion plans. With a strong lineup of content and strategic partnerships in place, HBO Max is poised to continue its growth in the competitive streaming landscape.
